In my previous two China-related pieces I have dwelt on past social issues, while giving some hints as to present outcomes, but now I feel it is time to bring you up to date.
Thanks again, and yes, I had a similar request above. My wife was brought up in Hakka country in the north of Guangdong and she speaks the dialect. There are many interesting architectural remains up there, we have visited, I have a lot of video clips and have promised to put something together, I’ll post it when finished.
Nice work Walt, it's great you are not just slouching off to a golf course in retirement. The video was most enjoyable. Took me over an hour because I had to stop it to absorb so much. All thumbs up, and of course we want more of them. waynorinorway
I agree with Bevin. We hang around on similar sites :-). I have become fascinated with China, and it is very difficult to separate reality from Western propaganda. There are a lot of good bloggers on YT, but they generally give a superficial view of the futuristic cities, transport and food.
I am glad you posted about wages: I am sure most people in the UK believe that the Chinese are mostly employed in sweatshops at terrible wages. Even though I am fairly sure that some Chinese people are actual rocket scientists :-).
Excellent. I came to this late, for reasons connected to a personal disataste for genocide, and just read it. I do hope that you continue with these contributions.
I wonder whether you or your wife are members of the Communist Party or would find it easy to join if you wanted to? It would offer you a forum in which to inform local people of your expeeriences while giving you an opportunity to learn more of theirs.
Anyway keep up the good work in your war against ignorance.
Thanks for your comment. I had thought about that before, I just checked again and only Chinese citizens can join.
I will continue to post weekly, I have a string of articles already saved and will try to do something Chinese every other week, interspersed with a wide variety of subjects. I have a few films I can put up, the second one in that series is called East Meets West, about the clash of civilisations from Roman times to the 1997 handover of Hong Kong.
Very good and interesting. Thank you. Do you know something about the south asian Hakka People? I would like you to write about them.
