An introduction to China, sampling Guangdong (Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Shixing), Sichuan (Dujiangyan) and Shaanxi (Xi’an) provinces. Thirty minutes. This is the number one of a series of nine I have made over the years. I will post the others in due course.
I made this film in 2013. I had visited Sichuan in 2008 shortly after the devastating earthquake, that was before I had a video camera, so that section just consists of stills.
This video had no subtitles, but once uploaded here, I found that the soundtrack had been transliterated to Welsh! I have been unable to find out why so I have disabled them. If they turn up again you can disable them or change to English in the square box at the bottom right.
I have had a couple of requests on Substack to do a piece about the Hakka minority, I have quite a lot of video clips and can do something with them. My wife was brought up in the Hakka region in north Guangdong, she speaks the dialect, there are many interesting Hakka remains up there and we have visited many of them. I will post it in a week or two.
If there are any Welsh compatriots watching this, I will be particluarly happy to hear from you!
